WHY “BAD WORDS” ARE FUCKING IMPORTANT

READING TIME: 4  MIN.

My biggest problem when it comes to talking is retraining myself from saying bad words. I once tried abstaining from saying them for an entire day and it was fucking excruciating.

I could feel the emotions building up trying to burst out of my mouth, like if they were tears building in my eyes just wanting to spill out.

The result was something interesting. I couldn’t fully express myself without them, like something was missing; it was like a saltless ocean, just missing an important part of its essence that is crucial for its existence.

I ended up staying silent most of the day and wondering why are “bad words” so bad. Parents seem to be more focused into their children’s vocabulary than their behavior.

My parents never really gave a fuck about how I spoke as a child, as long as I didn’t say them in school –because they didn’t want to explain to the shit principal how they didn’t give a fuck.

I was a well behaved girl, with good grades, responsible and respectful but I´ve always had the mouth of a Mexican sailor. You might be wondering how can I be respectful and say bad words at the same time? Well, it´s pretty simple, “Actions speak louder than WORDS”.

However, words are a necessary channel of expression and when our vocabulary becomes restricted from using certain words, the message we are trying to express can become crippled.

Here is an example:

You want to express extreme joy and amazement over an event and you also want to use the least amount of words because you obviously don´t want to talk about it like a philosopher.

Okay, so your friend comes up to you and asks, “How was the concert?”

You reply (abstaining from saying bad words).

– It was really awesome!

This answer seems like is lacking emotion, it is robotic and impersonal.

Now you answer trying to make your receptor comprehend how incredible it was but still abstaining from saying bad words.

            – It was like my mind was blown away by the intensity of the sound and the concentration of people jumping in the crowded auditorium while being united by one love in common, our passion for music.

Yeah… Mmm, if you reply like this you´re going to put your receptor to sleep and is very likely you wont find the words in that moment to express to a full extent why you liked the concert so much.

Or… you can answer using bad words and expressing how much you liked it.

             – It was fucking awesome!

Ah, much better.

Anger is an emotion that only bad words can truly explain the rage we feel.

          – I hate that fucking ass hole, piece of shit, how could he fucking sleep with that cunt!

This phrase doesn’t need farther explanation, you can understand the rage the person saying this is feeling and it only took one sentence. If I were to rephrase that like this:

          – I hate that unfaithful terrible man, how could he sleep with that sex worker!

Could you feel the rage? I´m guessing not as much as the first sentence, because is missing passion, it lacks the intensity of her frustration and anger.

Among the swear words in the English language “Fuck” is by far the greatest one, because it can be used as a verb, adverb, noun and adjective – and I´m sure I´m missing some.

It is a versatile word that can express joy, enthusiasm, anger, love and more.

  • I fucking hate you (Intense hatred).
  • I fucking love you (Intense love).
  • How the fuck are you? (Intense greeting).
  • Lets go fuck (To have sexual intercourse with no emotional bond).
  • Don´t you fuck with me (Intense warning).
  • Fucking nails (Discomfort or rejection towards nails).
  • Those fuckers are getting on my nerves (Displeasure towards annoying creatures).

I agree that is not nice to insult someone. However, if I want to insult someone, trust me, they´ll prefer I use  swear words than all the other adjectives I would use.

What would you prefer your boss to  call you? A “fucking ass hole” or  “you´re a failure”. I would rather be called a “fucking ass hole”.

Swear words are an important form of expression, without them our emotions wouldn’t be fully understood by the receptor of our message. They are a fundamental source of release.

We preach about freedom of speech but still damn those who use swear words; we judge their intellectual coefficient and social class by their use of words instead of admiring the passion in their expression.

Swear words are not bad words, they are the shit.
